Description: Just a short distance from Swansea, the spectacular Gower Peninsula is a must-see for all Swansea residents! Designated as the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956, the Gower Peninsula is famed for its rich and varied environment which is truly breath-taking. From wild moors and limestone cliffs to award winning gorgeous golden sandy beaches.
Here’s a little bit on each of our stops:
Rhossili – Possibly the most famous beach on Gower, Rhossili has received numerous awards and accolades, including being named one of the top 10 beaches in the world and best beach in the UK. Rhossili is also the location of Worm’s Head - a mile-long rocky headland that extends into the sea shaped like a giant sea-serpent which marks the most westerly tip of Gower, and the skeletal wreck of the ship Helvetia which sank here in 1887. A great place for some photography!
Three Cliffs - The Three Cliffs Beach at Gower in Swansea is scenic, sandy beach, backed by three limestone cliffs is a spectacular shoreline of sand dunes, salt marsh and encrusted with rock pools. With Pennard Pill stream running through the beach and panoramic views from the cliffs, it's one of the most photographed areas in Gower. Three Cliffs Bay beach offers a particularly photogenic part of the Wales Coast Path and a great spot to stop for a picnic.
Caswell Bay/Langland Bay- For this stop, you can either relax at Caswell until the bus leaves for Langland pick up, or make your way over the stunning cliff top walk to Langland Bay. We may spot some seals and other marine life so have your camera ready! (the cliffs are safe as long as you stick to the path)
Mumbles – a busy beautiful former fishing village just down the road from Swansea, Mumbles is home to independent shops, a pier and of course, Joe’s Ice cream (a local treat that must be sampled by any visitor). The town is welcoming and friendly with cute and quirky coffee shops, friendly pubs and bars and unique crafts and arts. It is also the home of Oystermouth Castle which, dating from 1106, is one of Wales’s most iconic coastal fortresses.
We’re not able to provide a ‘guided tour’, so we suggest making some plans for your time there before you go. We are also hosting a Meet-Up Mixer for those of you who are coming along to Gower Trip– this is a chance to meet others coming along and possibly plan some things to do together at our GO! Social: Meet up Mixer
